One day, a young couple was visited by Lord Dattatreya in their dreams. He promised them that he would be born as their son. Born as Manik to the elated couple, the divine child showed signs of spiritual maturity right from childhood. Gentle and compassionate, he had an aura that was profound and full of peace.
After his father's death there was some pressure on him to conform to the ways of the world but Manik continued to think differently. When his uncle banished him from their house because of his seemingly callous attitude, Manik realised that his life needed to take a different route and set out to fulfill it. He went on to become one of India's most beloved saints, whose teachings destroyed age-old barriers and united devotees from different religions, castes and walks of life.
