          Defenders of the Nation


When India was burdened under the yoke of the British, many of her citizens took the initiative to lead and work to unite the nation in its quest for freedom. Across the country, each small act of opposition against the British government slowly eroded their strength and forced them to finally leave. While some took up arms, others were the true flag bearers of the non-violent movement. In their own ways, they all fought for the same cause.
Amar Chitra Katha brings you Valiant Women - Defenders of the Nation, the stories of seven women who dedicated their lives to the struggle for India's independence. While some lost their lives fighting for it, some were lucky to see their dream come true.

🛡️ Story of Jhalkari Bai
The comic mainly shows the life of Jhalkari Bai, a very brave woman who lived during the time of the 1857 Revolt (India’s First War of Independence).

👑 Meeting Rani Lakshmibai

Jhalkari Bai later married a soldier named Puran. Through him, she met Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi, the queen. The queen was impressed by her courage and made her part of the women’s army.

⚔️ The Fight Against the British

During the revolt of 1857, the British attacked Jhansi, Rani Lakshmibai and her army fought bravely, but the situation became dangerous

 

 

🧠 Jhalkari’s Clever Plan

Jhalkari Bai came up with a smart plan:

She would disguise herself as the queen. This would confuse the British and give the real queen time to escape safely.
🎭 Her Sacrifice

Jhalkari bravely entered the enemy camp pretending to be the queen, She fought fearlessly even after being captured. Finally, she sacrificed her life for her country and her queen.
