THE MONKEY PRINCE
Bengal has a rich heritage of folk-tales handed down by word of mouth from grandmother to grandchildren, who keep the tradition alive, transmitting it from generation to generation. Dakshinaranjan Mitra Majumdar performed an invaluable service to the nation when he decided to do for Bengal what the Grimm Brothers had done in Germany. His diligently compiled collection of these tales were published as 'Thakurmar Jhuli' (Grandmother's bag). Rabindranath Tagore wrote about it 72 years back, when it was published, that there is nothing more nationalist than this unique collection which has captured in inimitable prose and verse the very essence of Bengali fairytales which have existed on the lips of grandmothers over the ages. On the occasion of the centenary of Dakshinaranjan's birth, Adarsh Chitra Katha feel proud to bring to the public one of his famous folk-tales.
