THE DOVE AND THE HUNTER
AND OTHER STORIES FROM THE PANCHATANTRA
The Panchatantra is a collection of short stories attributed to Vishnusharma, a Minister at the court of a Kashmir King around 200 B.C. The stories are unique in their style and narration, the animal characters contributing to the understanding of human nature, all the more vividly because of the symbolic undertones employed. Thus it will be found that these meaningful stories provide education to young and old alike, giving instructions in 'niti'-the art of living wisely. Many of the tales, possibly of older tradition than Vishnusharma's collection or narration have already found their way into folk tales of all parts of the world to leave an indelible impression on mankind.
