Indian Illustrated Classics is an innovative literary project under which well known novels in seven Indian regional languages will be published in a simple and colorfully illustrated format. Synopsis
It is not just the story that matters; it is also the narration that matters when it is Beechi. He raises a laugh as he narrates but the laughter hides a bitter truth. Aarida Chaha has both - laugh lines and an unpleasant truth. Raghu, the young hero here, is a jobless youth and a worry for the parents. Both die before he could either get a job or married. A marriage broker arranges a match but Raghu ends up as a servant cum son in law in his wife's house. His uncle frees him from that ordeal by getting him a job which takes him to Bangalore. He finally settles down. Two children later Raghu is alone - his wife a victim to TB. But his colleague, a divorcee, to whom he has helped, becomes his companion in the evening of his life. How is tea related to their companionship? Read on to find out...

'Beechi'
Meet Bernard Shaw of Karnataka - that's Beechi for you. Beechi is the pen name of Rayasam Bhimasena Rao (1913-1980), who captured the hearts of Kannada readers with his incisive wit. Beechi did not have an impressive academic qualification or a high profile job but he was impressive in his writings and had a high profile as a writer. Beechi took to writing accidentally. He turned over the pages of 'Sandhya Raga' by the renowned Kannada writer, A N Krishna Rao, to while away time while trav- eling and it put him on the reading track. Soon Beechi realised that he can wield the pen. A new writer was born and soon enough he was making waves. Novels, short stories, plays started coming out tick- ling the readers. Beechi did not just raise laughter, he made his readers think. He tried to expose hypocrisy amidst us and ripped open those who were exploiting the gullible. The corrupt and the god men were the special targets of his acerbic pen. 'Dasakoota' was his first novel. Some of his popular works are: 'Sati Sule', 'Saraswati Samhara', 'Tent Cinema', 'Elliruve Tande Baro', 'Belli Timma Noorentu Helida', 'Timmana Tale'. 'Nanna Bhayagraphi' is his autobiography.
