Indian Illustrated Classics is an innovative literary project under which well known novels in seven Indian regional languages will be published in a simple and colorfully illustrated format. Synopsis
Chandavalli is a small village. Being a parched land, it is not suitable for raising a garden. Yet, a Good Samaritan called Shivananje Gowda succeeds in raising a garden in Chandavalli. He devotes it for the use of the entire village in the name of God. But two crooks, Kariyappa and Subba Bhatta, ruin Gowda's family and spoil the village. Kariyappa cunningly snatches the ownership of the garden that Gowda wanted to belong to the entire village. The story mirrors the condition of the post-Independence India - it unfolds the good and bad sides of village life, undivided family and certain social values.

About The Author

'Ta Ra Su', Few Kannada writers can match Ta Ra Su (1920-1984) in creating such a moving prose. His mastery over language was phenomenal and his style was unique. What- ever be the theme, be it social, historical or even mythologi- cal, there is his distinctive stamp which mesmerizes the reader. It is said that his prose is sheer poetry. Ta Ra Su - short form for Taluku Ramaswamayya Subbaraya - has written extensively which includes dramas, translations and biogra- phies besides some 70 novels. The historical series on Chitradurga has received rare reviews. Ta Ra Su has proved his prow- ess as a master story teller and both the state and central Sahitya Akademies have recognized his ability by giving him awards.
