KRISHNA:THE SAVIOUR
The Bhagawat Purana sings of the glory of Vishnu and his incarnations. The tenth chapter on which the present series is based, depicts the story of the life of Shri Krishna. Attributed to Vyasa, the author of the Mahabharata, the Bhagawat is one of the most popular of the eighteen major puranas. The earlier eight volumes described the birth of Krishna, his frolicsome childhood days in Gokul and Vrindavana as well as his brave encounters with various demons. Also narrated were Krishna's marriages with Rukmini, Satyabhama and others. As an ally of the Pandavas, he helped them to overcome Jarasandha and perform the Rajasooya Yajna. The concluding volume of the present series narrates Krishna's confrontation with Shalva, his meeting with his childhood friend Sudama, and the marriage of his sister Subhadra to Arjuna. By living as an ordinary householder on earth, Krishna exemplified the path of dharma, artha and karna.
