KRISHNA : THE VICTORIOUS
The Bhagawat Purana sings of the glory of Vishnu and his incarnations. The tenth chapter on which the present series is based, depicts the story of the life of Shri Krishna. Attributed to Vyasa, the author of the Mahabharata, the Bhagawat is one of the most popular of the eighteen major puranas.
Our earlier volumes in this series depicted the divine feats performed by Krishna as a child. Later, together with Balarama, Krishna over- powered the wicked Kamsa and killed him, thus earning the wrath of Jarasandha, the king of Magadha. To protect his people from the armies of Jarasandha, who attacked Mathura eighteen times, Krishna created the city of Dwaraka. Also described were the events leading to the marriages of Krishna to Rukmini, Jambavati and Satyabhama.
