Katha Shree Satyanarayan Jee
"SHREE SATYANARAYAN KATHA" has been brought out in response to many of our readers' persistent demand. This katha or religious discourse has been popular in India since time immemorial. According to a legend, it was sage Suta, a disciple of the venerable sage Vyasa, who popularised this religious ceremony. When asked by rishis in the forest of Naimisa how human beings could avoid evil, the great sage told them that by observing Satyanarayan fasts and performing 'pujan', men and women could free themselves from the bonds of sin, attain divine bliss, and have their wishes fulfilled. The sage then related the stories of how some people earned the affection and grace of the Supreme God Vishnu by taking to Satyanarayan fasts and worship. You will find all those stories in this issue. Incidentally, this issue of Gaurav Gatha coincides with the centenary celebrations of the famous Shree Satyanarayan temple, Calcutta.
