प्रिय पाठकों, वन्दे मातरम!
इस वेबसाइट के सभी हमउम्र वयस्क मित्रों को सादर नमस्कार और नन्हे पाठकों को स्नेहभरा आशीर्वाद!

हममें से बहुतों का बचपन उन रंगीन पन्नों के साथ बीता है, जिनमें काल्पनिक नायक, रोचक कहानियाँ और अद्भुत संसार बसते थे। कॉमिक्स और कार्टून की दुनिया में हमें कई ऐसे काल्पनिकदोस्त मिले, जो कभी बहादुर थे, कभी शरारती, तो कभी ज्ञान और हास्य से भरे हुए। भारत में, विशेषकर उत्तर भारत में, हिंदी कॉमिक्स—या कहें चित्रकथाएँ—बच्चों की कल्पना और मनोरंजन का एक महत्वपूर्ण हिस्सा हुआ करती थीं। इन चित्रकथाओं ने अनगिनत भारतीय बच्चों और युवाओं को कल्पनाओं के पंख दिए हैं।

एक समय था, जब मोहल्ले की छोटी-सी किताबों की दुकानों या स्टॉल पर भी ये कॉमिक्स आसानी से मिल जाया करती थीं। कुछ बच्चे इन्हें खरीदते थे, तो कुछ भाड़े पर या पुस्तकालयों या अपने दोस्तों से उधार लेकर पढ़ते थे। उन रंगीन पन्नों में केवल मनोरंजन ही नहीं होता था—उनमें भारतीय पौराणिक कथाएँ, ऐतिहासिक घटनाएँ, प्रेरणादायक चरित्र और ज्ञानवर्धक प्रसंग भी छिपे होते थे।

भारतीय कॉमिक्स की इसी समृद्ध परंपरा में एक महत्वपूर्ण नाम है Amar Chitra Katha, और इसके साथ ही बच्चों की सबसे प्रिय पत्रिका Tinkle। इन दोनों ने भारतीय बच्चों को मनोरंजन के साथ-साथ अपने इतिहास, संस्कृति और लोककथाओं से परिचित कराने में बड़ी महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई। इस वेबसाइट पर मुख्य रूप से इन्हीं प्रकाशनों तथा इनसे संबंधित अन्य प्रकाशन की पुस्तकों/ कॉमिक्सों के आकर्षक मुखपृष्ठों एवं उसके विश्लेषण को संजोने का प्रयास किया गया है।

इन कॉमिक्स के पीछे एक दूरदर्शी व्यक्तित्व थे—Anant Pai, जिन्हें बच्चे स्नेह से “अंकल पै” के नाम से जानते थे। कहा जाता है कि 1967 में उन्होंने एक टेलीविज़न कार्यक्रम में देखा कि भारतीय छात्र ग्रीक और रोमन पौराणिक कथाओं के बारे में तो अच्छी जानकारी रखते हैं, पर अपने ही देश की कथाओं से उतने परिचित नहीं हैं। इसी विचार ने उन्हें प्रेरित किया कि भारतीय बच्चों को अपनी संस्कृति, परंपरा और इतिहास से परिचित कराने के लिए कॉमिक्स को एक माध्यम बनाया जाए। परिणामस्वरूप एक ऐसी श्रृंखला का जन्म हुआ, जिसने पीढ़ियों को ज्ञान और मनोरंजन दोनों से समृद्ध किया।

इस वेबसाइट का ‘संपादक’ कहलाने वाला मैं वही व्यक्ति हूँ, जिसके आदर्श यही अंकल पै है, तथा जिसे भारतीय कॉमिक्स के हर प्रारूप से एक विशेष लगाव रहा है। 1970 और 80 के दशक में अपने स्कूल के दिनों से ही मुझे कॉमिक्स संग्रह करने, उन्हें क्रमबद्ध रखने और उनका अनुक्रम तैयार करने का एक अनोखा शौक रहा है। उस समय मैं, यह काम कागज़ और कॉपियों में किया करता था, आज इंटरनेट ने इस कार्य को कहीं अधिक सरल और सुव्यवस्थित बना दिया है।

इस वेबसाइट पर इन तरह की विभिन्न कॉमिक श्रृंखलाओं के मुखपृष्ठों को एकत्रित कर उन्हें व्यवस्थित रूप से प्रस्तुत करने का एक छोटा-सा प्रयास किया गया है। मेरे लिए कॉमिक्स हमेशा कला और कहानी का ऐसा संगम रही हैं, जो पाठक को कल्पना की दुनिया में ले जाती हैं और साथ ही कुछ नया सिखाकर लौटाती हैं।

‘मधुर संग्रह’ केवल एक वेबसाइट नहीं, बल्कि मेरे और मेरे जैसे अनेक साथियों के उन यादों का एक छोटा-सा संग्रह है—जहाँ हमलोग अपने बचपन के प्रिय कॉमिक्स पात्रों और कहानियों को स्नेहपूर्वक साझा कर रहे हैं। जो आजकल सहज रूप से अन्यत्र देखने को कम मिलती हैं।

अंत में मैं अपने उस "परम मित्र" का अवशय धन्यवाद् करना चाहूंगा, जिनके मार्गदर्शन में मैंने इस कार्य की सबसे पहले शुरुआत की थी, और इस कॉमिक्स प्रस्तुतीकरण की नींव रखी थी आप सब शायद उस शख्स से परिचित ही होंगे! उनके साइट का परिचय इसी साइट के नीचे आप सबों को मिल जायेगा।

Dear Readers

A cordial greeting to all our adult peers on this website and warm blessings to our young readers!

Many of us spent our childhoods immersed in colourful pages filled with imaginary heroes, fascinating stories and wonderful worlds. In the world of comics and cartoons, we found many imaginary friends sometimes brave sometimes mischievous and sometimes full of wisdom and humour. In India, especially in North India, Hindi comics or comic books were an important part of children's imagination and entertainment. These comics have given wings to the imaginations of countless Indian children and youth.

There was a time when these comics were easily available even at small neighbourhood bookstores or stalls. Some children purchased them while others rented them, borrowed them from libraries or friends. Those colourful pages contained more than just entertainment. They also contained Indian mythology, historical events, inspirational characters and informative stories.

A significant name in this rich tradition of Indian comics is Amar Chitra Katha along with Tinkle, the beloved children's magazine. Both played crucial roles in entertaining Indian children while also introducing them to their history, culture and folklore. This website primarily focuses on showcasing the attractive covers and analysis of books and comics from these publications and other related publications. 

The visionary behind these comics was Anant Pai, affectionately known to children as "Uncle Pai." It is said that in 1967, he observed on a television program that Indian students were well-versed in Greek and Roman mythology but were less familiar with the stories of their own country. This idea inspired him to use comics as a medium to introduce Indian children to their culture, traditions and history. This resulted in a series that has enriched generations with both knowledge and entertainment.

I, the "editor" of this website, am the same person whose idol is Uncle Pai and who has a special love for every form of Indian comics. Since my school days in the 1970s and '80s, I've had a unique passion for collecting, organizing and sequencing comics. Back then, I used to do this on paper and notebooks. Today, the internet has made this task much simpler and more streamlined.

This website is a small effort to collect and systematically present the covers of various comic series like these. For me, comics have always been a fusion of art and story, transporting the reader to a world of imagination and teaching them something new.

At last not Least, I would certainly like to express my gratitude to that "Closest Friend" under whose guidance, I first embarked upon this endeavor and laid the foundation for this comic presentation. You are all likely already familiar with that individual! You will find an introduction to his website located right at the bottom of this very site.

"Madhura Sangrah" is not just a website but a small collection of memories from me and many others like me. Here, we lovingly share our childhood favourite comic characters and stories, which are rarely found easily elsewhere these days. If you grew up with these colourful pages or are entering this world for the first time today, you are heartily welcome.
